Mezz Cues Baltic Pool League 2017 has kicked off in just renovated Musta Kasi pool hall in Hyvinkää, Finland. This event is another landmark for the league as it is the first event in the six seasons to be held in Finland.Men's event was won by Jani Siekkinen (Finland) for the first time, but women's and old boys event was won by Anna Prisjaznuka who has already won many events in the past.

 Finns collected all the medals

The men's division was dominated by Finnish players as they collected all the medals. A remarkable fact happened in this event's semi-finals. Namely, this is the first time in the league's history that two brothers, Petri and Marko Makkonen, were in semi-finals. Unfortunately for brothers, they both lost their semi-finals. Petri lost to Markus Juva 5:8 and Marko lost to Siekkinen 4:8. In the final Siekkinen did not leave many chances to Juva and took a comfortable win 8:3.

After the first stage, Siekkinen has 28, Juva 25, Marko and Petri Makkonen 23 points.

Another win for Prizjaznuka

On the contrary to men's division, women's and old boys division was not all about blue and white. The only non-Finnish player in the top four was Prisjaznuka and she made the most of it as she was better of Juha Hyyryläinen 7:5. In her semi-final, against Janne Lehiö, Prisjaznuka showed great composure in a hill-hill rack when she managed to proceed to final with a score 7:6. Hyyryläinen did not let things go that far and won his semi-final 7:4.

After the first stage, Prisjaznuka has 25, Hyyryläinen 21, Saarinen and Lehiö 18 points.

Good start for another season

The Finnish event, with 44 participants from Belarus, Estonia, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania, was a good start for the new season. The organisers thank all the athletes, volunteers, fans and all other people and companies that were part of another enjoyable event.
